President Bola Tinubu has requested the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State over the abduction of 25 schoolgirls within the state.
This was contained in an announcement signed by Tinubu’s Particular Adviser on Data and Technique, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.
Matawalle, who was previously governor of Zamfara State, was requested to stay within the state to monitor safety efforts to safe the discharge of the kidnapped college students.
Gunmen kidnapped 24 college students of Authorities Girls Complete Secondary School in Maga city, Kebbi State, round 4am on Monday.
Matawalle, who is anticipated to arrive in Birni-Kebbi on Friday, gained some expertise in coping with banditry and mass kidnapping throughout his tenure as governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.
On 26 February 2021, armed bandits kidnapped 279 feminine college students aged between 10 and 17 on the Authorities Girls Science Secondary School, a boarding school in Jangebe, in Zamfara State. The bandits launched all of the hostages on 2 March 2021.
President Tinubu had postponed his scheduled journey to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaited additional safety briefings on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the assault on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
