The Premier League has launched a statement explaining why Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was proven a straight red card early within the first half against Manchester United.
Gueye clashed together with his personal team-mate, Michael Keane, after a free ball noticed Bruno Fernandes’ shot go vast.
The referee determined it was “violent conduct” and despatched him off.
A statement from the league learn: “The referee’s name of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the motion deemed to be a transparent strike to the face of Keane.”
The sending-off appeared to galvanise Everton, as they took the lead earlier than half-time due to a shocking effort from Kiernan Dewsbury-Corridor.
