Suspected bandits on Saturday kidnapped a number of travellers alongside the Isanlu–Makutu–Idofin highway in Yagba East Native Authorities Space of Kogi State after organising a roadblock.
Residents stated the gunmen blocked the highway for hours, stopping automobiles and forcefully taking passengers into the forest.
“We don’t know the precise variety of individuals kidnapped. What we heard is that about three autos bumped into the ambush and nearly everybody in them was taken, besides one particular person,” a resident, Enimola Daramola advised journalists.
He added that later within the night, troopers and native vigilantes adopted the attackers into the forest and exchanged gunfire with them, which led to the rescue of some victims.
The spokesperson of the Kogi state Police command, CSP William Aya confirmed the assault.
“There have been three individuals within the automobile. One particular person, Raji Adesukami, managed to flee, whereas the opposite two have been taken away by the abductors,” he stated.
Aya added that the Commissioner of Police has deployed particular police groups, together with the Fast response unit, Anti-Kidnapping squad and the Police cell drive, to rescue the victims and safe the world.
