Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, is going through suspension forward of the 2026 World Cup.
Ronaldo may miss at the least the opening recreation of subsequent 12 months’s event after receiving a purple card for violent conduct within the 2-0 defeat to the Republic of Eire on Thursday.
The 40-year-old was initially proven a yellow card for elbowing Eire defender Dara O’Shea within the 61st minute.
However, following a VAR evaluation, the referee upgraded the choice to a purple card.
It was Ronaldo’s first purple card for Portugal in his 226th worldwide look.
As per FIFA disciplinary guidelines, Ronaldo faces a compulsory one-match ban in aggressive fixtures.
The laws state that violent conduct may lead to a ban of “at the least three matches or an acceptable time period for assault, together with elbowing.”
The ban would apply to aggressive video games and can’t be served in pre-tournament friendlies.
