Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has safely returned to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, following his evacuation from Guinea-Bissau after a navy coup.
He landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe Worldwide Airport after being airlifted from Guinea-Bissau in the wake of the takeover.
DAILY POST stories that Jonathan had been in Guinea-Bissau as a part of a joint election observer mission deployed by the African Union, AU, ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Discussion board to monitor the presidential and legislative elections.
Recall that navy authorities in Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday declared they had assumed full control of the country. Additionally they introduced the suspension of all electoral actions and the rapid closure of nationwide borders.
Jonathan therefore found himself trapped in Guinea-Bissau following the announcement of the navy takeover on Wednesday.
