Chaos erupted during a Nigeria Premier Soccer League, NPFL match between Katsina United and Barau FC on Saturday in Katsina.
The violence occurred after Katsina United followers allegedly slit Barau FC player Nana Abraham’s throat.
The incident got here shortly after Barau player Orji Kalu scored a 69th-minute equaliser to make the sport 1-1.
Some dwelling supporters had been reportedly sad with the equaliser, and the ambiance shortly turned hostile, leading to Abraham being attacked at the stadium.
Abraham sustained a deep lower on his neck from the assault by enraged Katsina United followers.
The match referee instantly stopped play whereas medical workers attended to Abraham.
After a short delay, the match resumed, with Abraham substituted within the 71st minute.
The sport ultimately led to a 1-1 draw.
Confirming the incident, Barau FC, through its official X deal with, wrote: “70’ The match is briefly halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United 1-1 Barau FC.”
