President Paul Biya has been declared winner of Cameroon’s presidential election, extending his rule to a report eighth consecutive time period regardless of opposition claims of electoral fraud.
The Constitutional Council introduced on Monday that Biya, 92, emerged victorious within the nation’s disputed ballot, cementing his place because the world’s oldest serving head of state. The end result means Biya, who has dominated since 1982, will stay in energy till 2032.
Nonetheless, the declaration has been met with robust rejection from opposition leaders. Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Biya’s fundamental challenger, had earlier declared himself the winner, insisting that the official end result can be “tainted” and “not reflective of the individuals’s will.”
