5 security officers have been arrested and are set to face prosecution over the February 12, 2026 security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe Worldwide Airport (NAIA), Abuja, in an incident authorities say concerned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The arrests adopted a joint investigation carried out by the Division of State Companies, DSS, the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
These detained embrace ASP Ayuba Yakubu of the Nigeria Police Drive, Murtala Inuwa of the DSS, Najeeb Murtala of the Immigration Service, and Aviation Security personnel Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor.
Investigators disclosed that the suspects allegedly admitted to receiving bribes to grant unauthorised entry to restricted sections of the airport and to intervene with lawful security procedures.
Authorities described the event as a grave insider breach of crucial nationwide infrastructure.
The suspects have since been transferred to the Impartial Corrupt Practices and Different Associated Offences Fee (ICPC) for prosecution.
In the meantime, further Immigration and Customs personnel who had been discovered to have misused their official uniforms to facilitate unauthorised entry however weren’t deemed criminally liable will face inner disciplinary measures.
Authorities stated the motion displays a zero-tolerance coverage towards inner compromise inside Nigeria’s aviation security system.
