Tremendous Eagles ahead Ademola Lookman has criticised the Confederation of African Soccer, CAF, for its decision to vary the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, to a quadrennial occasion.
Lookman stated the change is unlucky for Africans, limiting their alternatives to benefit from the AFCON tournament.
The Atalanta participant shared his ideas with reporters following Nigeria’s 3–1 victory over Uganda within the 2025 AFCON tie on Tuesday.
“The decision has been made and you’ll’t actually change it,” Lookman, who has gained the African Footballer of the Yr award previously, stated.
“It’s a disgrace for Africans by way of having the ability to get the tournament two years that we’ve been used to; it’s a disappointment,” he added.
Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, not too long ago introduced that, beginning in 2028, the AFCON will likely be held each 4 years.
This modification follows the 2027 version in East Africa, marking a shift from the tournament’s lengthy-standing biennial format, which has been in place since 1968.
